Do
you like to snow ski or snowboard? Would you like to learn how?![]()
Each winter, Grand Oaks participates the Winter Sports Program at Ober Gatlinburg. This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to ski or snowboard, or, if you already know how to ski/snowboard, a chance to perfect your skills. Regardless weather you are an expert skier/snowboarder or have never done it before, you are sure to have a good time in the snow with other friends and families from Grand Oaks.
The cost for participation is: $109 for each skier and $169 for each snowboarder ($139 if you already have your own snowboard and boots). This cost covers:
· FOUR full-day sessions
· A lift ticket for each session
· A one-hour lesson each session
· Equipment rental for each session
· A tram ticket from Gatlinburg to Ober each session
Normally, one session would cost a skier $94 and a snowboarder $102. This is an incredible deal!!!!
This winter’s participation dates are on: January 10, 24, 31 and February 7. These are Sundays. We ski/snowboard on Sundays because the crowds are much lower, making it easier for new learners and kids.
Anyone in your family can participate. You DO NOT have to be a Grand Oaks student. Siblings, parents, cousins, neighbors, etc. of any age are more than welcome to join us. However, keep in mind that lessons and equipment are not guaranteed for children under 7 years old. If you have a younger child who wants to participate, I can call ahead to make sure they are prepared for him/her.
Transportation each week is up to each family. Equipment rental starts at 8 AM. The slopes open at 9. Most lessons start at 10. It’s up to each family to decide when you need to be there.
Parents are not required to ski with children 9 years old and older. However, parents are required to stay on the mountain. There are several places to eat, sit, watch and shop right near the slope entrance. There is also outdoor viewing of the skiers as they come down the mountain. Keep in mind…. PARENTS are responsible for their own children at all times.
There is a form your child should have brought home from school that will need to be filled out and returned if your family is interested in participating in this fun activity. If you do not have the form, please click here and print it off. This will need to be returned by December 4th because there will be more forms sent home to fill out on each participant. All money and participation forms will be due by Wednesday, December 16th.
