Who I AM

I received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky in Dec., 1979.  In Dec., 1981, I completed my Master of Arts in Elementary Education at the University of Louisville.  Since that time, I have completed a Reading Specialist endorsement in Georgia in May, 2000, and most recently have been trained in Reading Recovery and the Comprehensive Intervention Model through Georgia State University during the 2009-2010 school year. In June, 2011 I was trained as a teacher observer in the Tennessee TEAM  teacher evaluation model.

This year will mark my 29th year of teaching. I taught 9 years in elementary school in Louisville and Berea, Kentucky.  In addition, I taught for 15 years in middle schools in Georgia as well as in Anderson County, Tennessee. I am highly qualified to teach Language Arts at the middle school level. I was an academic coach at Claxton Elementary in Anderson County for grades K through 5 from 2007-2014. This is my first year at Grand Oaks Elementary.

I was born in Aurora, Illinois, and moved to Nashville, Tennessee with my family at the age of 9.  I graduated from Hillsboro High School in Nashville in 1975, the same year I married my husband, Paul. We moved to Louisville, Kentucky to pursue my college coursework, and for my husband to attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. After completing his PhD in 1983, we have served churches as pastor and wife in Kentucky, Georgia, and Tennessee. We are parents of two adult sons: Nathan and wife, Amber, and John, who both reside in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
